Private School / Cleaning the Bathtub
Cell phone whirs,
Spins off the sink,
(Ping!) I catch it midair,
And there:
A photo of you and yours–
A Porsche.
A Coke-red Porsche.
“I’m very thankful, of course.”
A dawn bubble ring.
Faucet whines.
My eyes foam
With tacit things.
“Anyway.
How you been?”
(That is how your message ends.)
That’s not just a question.
It’s a test about everything.
I plunge the rosy sponge in spume.
I pore over the porcelain.
It begins to rain
In my bathroom.
